S2 as part of their microbes topic having been using our new super duper microscope. It is a teaching one that can be set up at the centre and everyone else can see what the centre microscope can see. S1 have also been looking at some microbes but they didn't get to use the new microscope as it only arrived today.

Piggiflu is Coming
Secondary arrived this morning to this picture in assembly!
Mrs Offord told them that one pupil had been "infected" that morning with a virus and she had given them a card saying infected with piggiflu. No one knew who that person was and they would not tell anyone (it was in fact Staurt Smith). BUT if anyone spent more than 5 minutes in his company they would then be infected and Stuart would pass them an infected card along with spare cards with which they would then go on to infect other people. We all returned at lunch time and looked to see who had "caught" the piggiflu. All the pupils except 2 and some of the staff were infected! We then look at ways to stop us getting infected - hand washing, using hankies, staying off if we are ill, etc.
The one who started it all!!

pH and red cabbage
S1 have been looking at pH as part of their water studies. They are taking red cabbage home to make pH indicator and will be testing some household liquids to see if they are acids or alkalis. The different colours in the test tube were made by layering an acid on top of an alkali and the red cabbage juice changes colour - cool!!

More socks!! Meiosis
After looking at mitosis S3 are now learning about Meiosis. This is similar to mitosis but has some differences. Can you spot them! Meiosis is the process that makes sperm and egg cells by halving the number of chromosomes in a gamete mother cell.
